Cakes are meant to grace your occasions at all times (click here to see why). And because a cake can tell what your event is about, there are different types of cake for different occasions. Here is a list of 7 types of cake you can have at your event.

1. Butter Cake

Butter cake is a basic cake made from butter, sugar, flour, eggs, and leavening agents. It is simple to make and excellent for all occasions. Its origin is traceable to the English pound cake. In American baking, it is regarded as one of the quintessential cakes. It gives a soft tender and buttery taste. It doesn't require much to prepare, nor does it expend time.

2. Pound Cake

Once Upon A Chef

Alluding to its name, this cake has a dense texture and its key ingredients — butter, sugar, eggs and flour — do not exceed one pound each. It is called Quatre-quarts in France because of the equal weights of the four ingredients: butter, sugar, eggs, and flour. While baking a pound cake, it never rises compared to others. It's ideal for events like baby showers, birthday parties, bridal showers.

3. Carrot Cake

Unlike other types of cakes, carrot cake is exceptional. It has a combination of different ingredients but most significantly, grated carrots. It's leavened with baking powder and baking soda. This classical cake is uniquely prepared with oil rather than butter as its prime fat. It is well flavored with spices and rich cream cheese to the top for a frost. It comes with a frosty image and can blend with other ingredients such as walnuts and pecans which are discretionary. It is suitable for events like housewarming and baby shower.

4. Red Velvet Cake

As a fancy dessert, red velvet cake has its origin in Maryland. It is traditionally prepared with either oil or butter. The red pigment is a result of the reaction of buttermilk and cocoa powder. It's moisture content and ermine icing coating makes it irresistible and tasty. In recent years, red velvet cake is becoming increasingly prominent in many European countries and most of all in the US where it first originated.

5. Genoise Cake

Amazingly, Genoise Cake is named after the city of Genoa in Italy. It is often referred to as "sponge cake" due to its moistness and tenderness. However, it is different from the sponge cake in that it contains no fat except that present in egg yolks. As an Italian cake that has its association with French and Italian cuisine, it's exceptionally prepared by beating egg yolks, whites, and sugar together until mousse-like. Next, flour and either butter or oil are folded in.

6. Fruit Cake

This cake is ideal for weddings and festive celebrations like Christmas. Their rich nature makes it easy to be consumed without extra condiments such as butter or cream. Fruit cake is never dry or crusty, but rather rich and tasty.

7. Chocolate Cake
