“AI is here to stay!”

“AI is the future!”

One of the biggest raves in the world of tech presently is the rise of artificial intelligence. If you haven't already seen the news about Sophia—one of the world's most advanced humanoid robots, it's highly possible that you've seen photos of creative artwork designed by image-generating AI, or the remarkable capabilities of the chatbot known as ChatGPT. This renewed surge of artificial intelligence is so powerful that concerns are now being expressed about the possibility of AI taking over global systems in ways that mirror the plot of certain sci-fi films. Remember Terminator: Judgement Day? I, Robot?

Now, almost everyone is talking about the impressive capabilities of ChatGPT. Launched by OpenAI last November, ChatGPT is a language-processing AI model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text. It literally communicates almost as a human being would. And it is proficient on several fronts: it can write poems, limericks, and research papers; it can explain topics in simple terms, brainstorm ideas and personalize communication; and it can act as a virtual assistant, language translator, and content marketer.

Just like that, ChatGPT has also displayed an incredible ability to produce well-written content in seconds from complicated topics that would normally take even the smartest human beings quite a while to put together. This is parallel to the ability of AI programs like Midjourney, DALL-E 2, and Stable Diffusion to create hyper-realistic graphics from the basic written prompt. It didn't take too long for most human artists and writers to recognize the digital threat that artificial intelligence posed to their professional careers. And to a large extent, these fears reinforce a potent and undeniable fact of life: that the machines we create will one day surpass us in many ways, even to the point of making us unemployable.

But it is worth noting that even though these fears are valid, they don't absolutely reflect how reality will be.  As it is, humanity is still a long way off from total domination by artificial intelligence, but we will all still be affected by this phenomenon in different ways going forward. After all, we have more or less been relying on AI to do so many things for us—including helping us to write blog posts like this one.

As technological advancements continue, AI’s role in our lives will only grow bigger. But for the sake of the future ahead, here are a few of the positive ways that AI will impact how we live and work:

AI Will Help Our Minds To Be More Creative

A great percentage of the work we do as humans is often wasted on boring tasks. This tends to prevent us from making the most of our problem-solving skills and creative imagination. But with AI incorporated into our workflow, we would have more than enough time to be more productive while AI deals with lesser duties. This will enable business teams to dedicate more time to high-value jobs and work.

It Will Revolutionize Customer Support Services

The use of advanced chatbots like ChatGPT will come in handy for businesses while saving lots of time. When these chatbots are readily available around the clock for people to tender their complaints, they can also be programmed to attend to questions within, suggest solutions, or redirect one to possible steps to resolve their issues. This will inadvertently reduce the workload of customer service units while ensuring that no one has to wait too long for help.

AI Can Easily Help Businesses To Run Better

With AI, businesses can conduct in minutes the sort of marketing analysis that would normally take weeks or months. This will in turn allow businesses to quickly create decisive social media strategies, adapt to unanticipated changes and reduce the possibility of errors. As a consequence, businesses will run more efficiently.

AI Will Be A Major Source Of Personal Assistance

If you haven't already seen the movie — M3GAN (2022), you probably should. The film features a representation of what role artificial intelligence will play in terms of supporting humanity, although it has a rather dramatic plot that is normal for Hollywood standards. Fortunately, the future of human-AI relationships does not have to be so horrific. This is because advances in AI tech will allow for the creation of bots infused with the purpose of helping humanity, not harming us. Imagine bots capable of helping us to seamlessly manage different aspects of our lives, just like the AI system in the critically acclaimed film, Her (2013), or the robotic caretaker in Robot & Frank (2012).

AI Can Help Improve Cybersecurity

Every year, individuals and companies suffer from and struggle to stay one step ahead of attacks from cybercriminals. In 2022, global cyberattacks increased by 38%, with most of these attacks majorly hitting sectors of education, healthcare, and government. Now, experts are predicting that certain automated capabilities peculiar to AI can be used to safeguard data and that this will help protect people from common crimes like online fraud or identity theft. This is because AI can be trained to recognize patterns used to spread malicious viruses and can also be programmed to prevent these attacks.

AI Can Be Used In Medicine/Healthcare

It may surprise you to know that work is being done to develop AI-based models which will be able to detect illnesses from smelling the breath of a human being alone. This is just one of the many ways in which AI can positively impact healthcare, as it can also be applied to run perfect diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceutical treatments, run hospital administration and generally make the work of certified healthcare personnel easier.

Conclusion

For decades since the first artificial intelligence system was created in the 1950s, there have been warnings that our jobs will be lost to these inventions. However, what such warnings only do is act as a blindfold which limits us from fully appreciating the promising benefits of AI. And it becomes much harder to embrace artificial intelligence due to the rate of skewed portrayals of this phenomenon in popular culture.

As a result of these fictional representations and biased opinions, most of us are only able to perceive artificial intelligence as a threat, whereas it shouldn't be so. Rather, we should brace up for the impact AI will play in our daily lives by first of all focusing on the benefits. The reality is that artificial intelligence was never meant to replace us, but to enhance our lives. The future is a lot brighter and closer thanks to these technological advances. It would be a shame to be left behind while the world moves on; the best thing to do is simply adapt and reap the benefits of these tech marvels.
